Molasses Grill, located at 63 S Main St in Halifax, VA, shines as a fine dining establishment that has garnered a dedicated following. Diners rave about the exceptional food and attentive service. A recurring highlight is the shrimp and grits, which received particular praise from multiple guests. Other standouts include the wild caught stripped bass and the filet mignon, although the latter has sparked some suggestions for improvement.
The atmosphere at Molasses Grill is inviting as well, with servers like Brittany and Miles enhancing the experience through knowledgeable recommendations. Guests have enjoyed delightful drinks like the Lavender Haze martini and decadent desserts, including a coconut cake and peanut butter pie, each perfectly matching the meal's intensity with their flavors.

We made a reservation for Saturday dinner and were delighted with our experience. Brittany, our server, was fantastic, offering great suggestions that enhanced our meal. We ordered the shrimp and grits, wild caught stripped bass, and angel hair pasta with shrimp—each dish was cooked to perfection. For dessert, we indulged in a delicious coconut cake paired with a nice Port, a combination that beautifully complemented the cake's rich flavors. We'll definitely be returning. One small suggestion: the chairs were a bit uncomfortable and seemed tall for the table height.

The food was phenomenal and Miles was a fantastic server. From the Lavender Haze martinis to the peanut butter pie, everything was delicious. We had five drinks, two appetizers, three entrees, and one dessert and the bill was under 200. We will definitely be back again!

Molasses was highly recommended to us by an employee/bartender at Springfield Distillery. One of the best meals and dining experiences I have ever had. Our server Cristina was friendly, welcoming and extremely attentive. We were a party of 4- 2 of us ordered the grouper special and 2 order ed the filet mignon. Everything was wonderful!!

Two things are guaranteed for any trip to molasses grill: (a) everything you order will be absolutely delicious, but (b) you will be there for hours. My dad used to joke that they got their name from being slower than molasses. But for real, it's worth the wait. They have a tiny kitchen and they regularly work miracles in it. Also, if you don't get the calamari, it's effectively a complete waste of a trip. Their filet mignon dish could use an overhaul though.

My family came to south Boston for a funeral but it also happened to be 3 birthdays in the family that same weekend. I overheard another guest in the hotel talking about what a gem this restaurant was. I was able to make a reservation for the same night. They did not disappoint. The food was amazing, the staff was super patient with our large group and they were able to accommodate us in a private room. I will definitely return.

Wonderful restaurant in a quaint town...a real hidden gem in South Virginia. We went with another couple and here's what we ordered; Halibut (delicious), rib eye steak (melts in your mouth), crab cakes (very tasty) and the bourbon chicken (tender & flavorful). Of course their desserts were marvellous! The wait-staff was very attentive and we'll be back again.

We've driven by this place in the way to visit my parents for 20 years. I've always heard great things. Pictures looked wonderful but we could never make it work. We finally made it last minute on the drive to Lynchburg from Durham and will definitely be back. The interior is warm and inviting. Casual elegance (is that even a term?) Menu had a nice selection without being overwhelming and i think this allows them to do what they do well.

We were delighted to find this fine dining establishment with in-house chef hidden in downtown Halifax county. The menu changes seasonally, the food was fresh and cooked just right, and the service was outstanding. Pictured is their fall chicken dish, bbq shrimp dish, and sweet potato crema brulee.
